Snapdragon

RHS Plants for Pollinators

A beneficial annual which is easy to grow and produces beautiful spikes of flowers in soft pinks and white. Snapdragons are attractive to pollinators and will flower all summer with regular deadheading. They work brilliantly in summer borders, but are just as happy in a container.

Sowing & growing

Sow under cover Jan-March, or Sep-Dec for flowers the following year. Surface sow onto moist, well drained compost. Keep at 18-20°C and do not cover the seed as they need light for germination. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant and grow on in pots at cooler temperatures. Plant out 50cm apart once risk of frost has passed.

Aftercare

Pull up and compost plants in autumn, or if plants withstand the winter, cut back in spring to encourage fresh growth. May self-seed
