Aquilegia 'Barlow Mixed'

Granny's Bonnet or Columbine

RHS Plants for Pollinators

This Columbine has double, nodding flowers above attractive, lacy foliage. Aquilegia prefer partial shade but will also grow in full sun. They suit naturalistic plantings in a woody area of the garden or cottage gardens. A superb variety for cutting, with tall, strong stems that last well in the vase.

Sowing & growing

Sow indoors Feb-June in moist seed compost. Cover with light sprinkling of compost only, as light is required for germination at 15-20°C. Prick out when large enough to handle and plant out 30cm apart after risk of frost has passed. Alternatively make late sowings Sep-Oct and overwinter for flowers the following spring.

Aftercare

Continue to water until established. Deadhead regularly to encourage more flowers.
