Aquilegia 'Lime Sorbet'

Granny's Bonnet or Columbine

RHS Plants for Pollinators

With their nodding flowers appearing from May to June, columbines are useful perennials. 'Lime Sorbet' is a refreshing choice for borders with soft or calming colour themes. The pretty, double flowers are irresistible to pollinators and suitable for cutting. However, even when not in flower, the blue-green lacy foliage is very attractive.

Sowing & growing

Sow under cover Feb-Jun, 5mm deep into moist seed compost. Do not omit light. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into pots and grow on. Acclimatise outside before planting out in final location. Seeds can be sown in situ Apr-Jun, 5mm deep in well prepared soil. Plants will flower the following May.

Aftercare

Will self-sow, so remove spent flowers if you do not want it to spread. Cut back foliage in autumn.
