Antirrhinum 'Appleblossom'

Snapdragon

RHS Plants for Pollinators

While they grow as perennials naturally, snapdragons are usually grown as annuals in the garden. This variety has delicate, bicoloured flowers on very tall stems. Ideal for a cutting garden, it will go on producing more flower stems if regularly harvested above a pair of leaves. The blooms are attractive to pollinators.

Sowing & growing

Surface sow onto moist seed compost undercover. Sow Sep-Mar, keep seeds at 18-20°C until germination occurs. Transplant seedlings when big enough to handle and acclimatise to cooler temperatures before being planted out when frosts have passed.

Aftercare

Pruning out the main growing stem of young plants will encourage bushy growth. Tall flower stems will require staking.
