Sowing & growing
Sow any time between November and March in either pots, seed trays or in situ. Sow 5cm deep. If direct sowing, sow in rows or double rows, 23cm apart and between rows. Water well. Broad beans like full sun, protected from winds in rich, fertile soil. Stake stems as they grow.
Aftercare
Broad beans often suffer from blackfly infestations. To deter, pinch out the growing tips after the first flowers have set pods.
