Flowers
Calendula 'Oopsy Daisy'
Marigold
Hardy annuals in unusual colours but very attractive to beneficial insects such as bees and butterflies. The edible flowers are great in salads and to flavour dishes such as soups. They are superb when used to edge a border or a path, or in row for cutting in the vegetable garden where they also work as a companion plant.

Growing calendar
Sowing & growing
Sow outside where they are to flower in April to May. Sow seeds thinly, 10mm deep in well-prepared fine soil. Or you can sow under cover in trays or pots of composts, and plant out when large enough to handle. Seeds can also be sown in Aug-Oct and if kept under glass over the winter for an earlier flowering display the following year.
Aftercare
Pick flowers every few days and cut spent flowers regularly to extend the flowering season.
