Chicory 'Rossa di Treviso'
Cichorium intybus
This Italian crop is a favourite ingredient for both salads and cooked dishes. Each plant produces an upright rosette of deep purple spear-like leaves with pure white midribs. They have a pleasantly bitter taste that intensifies as plants mature. Cut whole plants or pick individual leaves. Good cold tolerance.

Harvest
Sowing & growing
Sow 1.5cm deep where they are to grow April-August, or start off early under cover, in modules of seed compost in February-March. Transplant out from May. Thin out or plant out to 25-30cm apart.
Aftercare
Water well until established as water shortage will give the leaves a more bitter taste.
