Cobaea scandens -

Cup & Saucer Vine

This incredibly vigorous climber should be given a sunny and sheltered position in free-draining soil. In mild sites it may overwinter outside. The huge cup-and-saucer style flowers are produced en masse and have a slightly sweet fragrance.

Sowing & growing

Soak seeds 2-4 hours prior to sowing, and sow under cover Jan-Mar. Prick out into small individual pots once large enough to handle. Alternatively sow direct outdoors in Apr-Jun in a well-preapred seedbed. Provide a support/bamboo cane for the young plants to climb. Plant out into final position late May onwards after the risk of frost has passed.

Aftercare

Provide support for the plants to climb. They can cover a large trellis or arch in one season.
