Sowing & growing

Under cover March-April, sow the easily-handled, long thin seeds 3mm deep, in trays of moist compost, cover with a fine layer of vermiculite or compost. Transfer to individual pots when large enough to handle. Acclimatise before planting out in May and protect from late frosts. Can also be sown direct to the border May-June. Space 30cm apart.

Aftercare

Deadhead regularly. Pinch out tips of young plants to encourage bushy growth. May need protection from slugs and aphids
