Growing calendar
Sowing & growing
Sow directly March-July. Sow thinly in finely raked soils removed of stones, 1cm deep in drills 30cm apart. Water with a fine spray so seeds do not get washed away. Thin seedlings to 10cm spacing. Carrots do not like freshly manured soil, so prepare beds autumn before. Water well until established.
Aftercare
Protect early sowings with a cloche during cold spells. Protect from carrot fly with garden fleecing. Harvest smaller carrots over course of season, leaving others more room to grow. Store in dry sand.
