Sowing & growing

Sow where they are to flower Mar-May, in finely raked soil, 3mm deep in drills 30cm apart. Thin seedlings out to 15cm. Alternatively, sow under glass Aug-Oct into moist seed compost and cover with a thin layer of soil, then overwinter for stronger plants and an earlier show of flowers the following year.

Aftercare

Cornflowers do not need to be fertilised and like to be crowded. Regularly deadhead or cut flowers for the vase to encourage further blooms.
