Cosmos

RHS Plants for Pollinators

These easy-to-grow annuals are valuable in garden borders, where they create a soft and cloudy effect. This variety, with its pastel petals, will be especially suited to white and cool-toned colour schemes. Cosmos attract butterflies, bees and hoverflies and make wonderful cut flowers.

Sowing & growing

Sow undercover from Feb-April in pots or trays of seed compost and cover lightly with thin layer of soil. Keep at 21°C until germination occurs. Prick out seedlings when they are big enough. Grow on in cool and light conditions and plant out when last frosts have passed. Sow directly where they are to flower in May-June.

Aftercare

Keep plants well-watered until established and deadhead regularly. When young, pinch out tips for bushier plants.
