Flowers
Daucus carota 'Dara'
Wild Carrot
The buds of this cultivar are white, before opening to pink flowers, gradually fading to burgundy as flower dies. Once the flowers fade, the seedheads close in on themselves to create an attractive concave shape, much like a birds-nest. When left through the winter, they are eye catching covered with frost. The frothy flowers make a great cut flower.

Growing calendar
Sowing & growing
Best direct-sown outdoors where it is to flower from Oct-April. Rake into a depth of ~1cm. Thin to 10-15cm apart once germinated. Requires exposure to cold temperatures to germinate. Although a biennial, it can flower in its first year. Seedlings look a little like grass but develop quickly and require little attention.
Aftercare
Leave some seed heads through winter and these should re-seed themselves for subsequent years.
