Growing calendar
Sowing & growing
Best sown direct outdoors where they are to flower from Oct-April. Rake into a depth of ~1cm. Thin to 10-15cm apart once germinated. Requires some exposure to cold temperatures to germinate. Although a biennial, it can flower in its first year. Seedlings look a little like grass but develop quickly and require very little attention.
Aftercare
By leaving some seed heads through winter for structure, they should re-seed themselves for subsequent years.
