Mexican Fleabane

RHS Plants for Pollinators

Mexican fleabane is a useful plant for border edges, pots, hanging baskets and rockeries. The mass of flowers appear in summer, will often carry on flowering into autumn. They create an attractive two-tone affect as the buds open white and flowers fade to dusky pink. Grows quickly from seed and attracts pollinators.

Sowing & growing

Sow under cover Feb-July. Sow on the surface of moist seed compost and keep at 15-20°C for germination. Requires light to germinate, do not cover. Transplant into individual pots when large enough. Should be acclimatised before planting out 25cm apart. Alternatively sow direct April-July in their final position. Seeds sown earlier will flower in their first year.

Aftercare

Cut back to ground level in early spring. May require frost protection in colder areas.
