Geum 'Lady Stratheden'

Avens

RHS Plants for Pollinators

This lovely, golden-yellow flowered Avens will add vibrancy to a border or container, and once established, will begin flowering as early as May and keep going throughout the summer if kept well-watered. The perky, long-stemmed flowers are a magnet for bees.

Sowing & growing

Sow inside Feb-April in moist seed compost. Cover seeds lightly with soil or vermiculite and store at 18-22°C until germination occurs, which can take a few weeks and be inconsistent. Transplant seedlings into small pots when large enough. Harden off seedlings before planting out after frosts have passed, 50cm apart.

Aftercare

Likes to grow in full sun to partial shade in fertile soil. Keep well-watered and deadhead for prolonged flowering. Every few years, lift and divide large clumps in spring or autumn.
