Sowing & growing
Sow thinly from March-August in drills, 10mm deep, in soil that has been raked to a fine tilth. Grows well under cloches in frosty weather. Thin out seedlings when large enough to handle to 15cm between plants. Suitable for succession sowing for constant supply. Can also be sown under cover Feb-April in modules, and planted out to the vegetable garden after the frosts have passed. Thin to 15cm between plants and 25-30cm between rows.
Aftercare
Sow little and often to ensure a continuous supply of fresh lettuce for up to 6 months. May need protection from birds and insects with fleecing or netting.
