Nasturtium

RHS Plants for Pollinators

A compact bushy variety, which is easy to grow. The leaves and flowers of this annual are edible with a peppery flavour. The flowers look beautiful added to salads. Nasturtiums make useful companion plants, as they loved by pollinators, and will help attract white fly away from crops such as melons, cucumbers and tomatoes.

Sowing & growing

Sow indoors from March to April in good seed compost, 2cm deep. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle transplant into individual pots. Once the risk of frost has passed, acclimatise the plants before planting out. Alternatively sow outside from May to July, space the plants 20 cm apart.

Aftercare

Best flowering display if planted in poor soil, so no need to fertilise. Deadhead regularly.
