Langsdorff's tobacco plant

RHS Plants for Pollinators

Tall Tobacco plants with scented, green flowers release their fragrance at night. It's a great plant for pollinators and a very useful cutting flower too. Happy to grow in sun or shade and will continue to flower for many months long into Autumn. Handle cut flowers with care as foliage and stems may cause skin irritation.

Sowing & growing

March-May, sow under cover in moist, seed compost. Only cover seeds with a dusting of compost as germination requires light. Keep at 18-22°C. Transplant into individual pots when seedlings are large enough to handle, and grow on in cool conditions until the risk of frost has passed. Acclimatise and plant out, spacing them 30cm apart.

Aftercare

If growing in container, use a large pot to prevent it drying out.
