Vegetables
Okra
Abelmoschus esculentus
Okra is ideal for the greenhouse or poly-tunnel as it needs heat to grow well and produce a good crop. If you have a sun-trap patio in a hot summer it can mature outside. The green seedpods are used in soups stews and curries and can also be roasted.

Sowing & growing
Soak the seeds for 2 hours in lukewarm water before sowing, Sow in Mar-Apr in small pots or seeds trays, with a light covering of fine seed compost. Keep warm at 20-25C in a propagator for germination to occur. Transplant to their final large pot or bed once large enough. Pinch out tips to encourage bushy growth. 4-5 plants should be enough for a whole family.
Aftercare
Grown inside, they may require pollinating with a small paintbrush if there are not enough pollinating insects getting inside the greenhouse or poly-tunnel
