Papaver rhoeas (Poppy)
Common Poppy
This symbolic flower grows in masse in the countryside, in large, dramatic displays. Recreate the effect in the garden by planting swathes of this annual with other daintier cottage-garden favourites. Papery, blood-red flowers surround a central black spot. Decorative seed heads follow. Will freely self-seed around your garden in bare soil.
