Sowing & growing

For an outdoor crop, sow under cover 6-8 weeks before rosts end. Sow 5mm deep into good quality seed compost. Keep at 20-25°C for germination, which typically takes about 1 week. Seed compost must remain moist but not wet. Acclimatise before planting out once frosts have passed. Grow in a greenhouse or warm sunny and sheltered position. Roots are fragile, so plant out with care.

Aftercare

Pick whilst still young and green for the classic Padron pepper taste. If left to ripen to red or yellow, the chillies will be significantly hotter.
